From 7 to 21 July 2023, the Cissie Gool House Co-Design Exhibition was at the Cape Institute for Architecture in the Cape Town CBD, the exhibition showcased the co-design process and included short videos, documentaries, with live poetry and story readings. For the public, it was an opportunity to interact and start a conversation with the Cissie Gool House residents. Several seminars, workshops, and guided tours had been organised during the exhibition:

13 June 2023, Dylan Valley, co-director of ‘No Place But Here‘, the 360 VR documentary about CGH, was present at the Co-Design Exhibition with VR headsets so that viewers could experience the immersive version of ‘No Place But Here’. A flat version of the film was screened on loop throughout the exhibition.

15 June 2023 City Occupied Dialogue. The dialogue included short presentations by our collaborators on recent research conducted. Jinty Jackson discussed the mapping of Cape Town inner-city occupations; Kezia Fortuin offered a comparison to inner-city occupations and tenure security in São Paulo, Brazil; Naeemah Sadien talked about CGH’s external and internal pressures and impacts on residents’ health and well-being.

21 June 2023, Dialogue: Social Housing – For Whom and How? At the Cape Institute for Architecture, located at 71 Hout Street, central Cape Town, an event focused on integrating social housing and fostering community through active participation took place. One of the speakers was Stephan De Beer from Yeast City Company, the first social housing company in the City of Tshwane and one of the first in South Africa.
