Cissie Gool House – Monitors Training Course
The Monitors’ group was recently established within the Cissie Gool House occupation. The tasks and roles of this group are still being defined, but their main aim is to enhance social dynamics among the occupants and support the structure of elected leaders. This training activity is crucial for more precisely identifying the roles and functions of the monitors.
The training framework draws upon the concept of the Triad of Communing (from “Free, Fair, and Alive: The Insurgent Power of the Commons” by D. Bollier and S. Helfrich), which outlines patterns that can sustain a common. Cissie Gool House can be conceived as such a common.

In the Monitors’ Training Course, we will focus on the SOCIAL LIFE aspect, particularly on:
- Practicing gentle reciprocity.
- Trusting situated knowing.
- Preserving relationships while addressing conflicts.
- Reflecting on peer governance.
The Monitors’ Training Course activity is also a way to ritualize togetherness.
The first four weekly sessions, starting on 17 September 2019, will concentrate on using information as a tool for building social relationships. The Monitors are envisioned to become key individuals in providing information on various aspects.
In the preparatory meeting with the Monitors held on 10 September, the following areas were identified:
- The need for positive activities for youth and children.
- Information on access to health services.
- Information on services for drug or alcohol addiction.
- Procedures for requesting pensions or grants.
- How to access waiting lists for social housing.
- Managing conflict in challenging situations.
- Improving relations with the Cissie Gool House neighbors.
