Co-design Exhibition – Urban Land Justice Gathering

From 21 to 23 September 2023 the Cissie Gool House Co-Design Exhibition was at the Urban Land Justice Gathering at the District 6 Museum, the launch of Urban Land Justice Gathering Exhibitions at the District 6 Homecoming Centre took place – featuring Virtual Reality documentaries about living in Reclaim the City occupations – ‘No Place But Here’ by Dylan Valley and Annie Nisenson, as well as ‘Excluded’ by Zacharia Mashele. Mashele, trained at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, also launched a photography exhibition of photos he had taken documenting the work of Reclaim the City and Ndifuna Ukwazi over a period of 5 years. There were exhibitions by the Cissie Gool House on the resident-led process to imagine an inclusive future for the occupation, Mmakhotso Lamola’s artist responses to spatial injustice in Cape Town, proposals of how public land could be used differently, and stories of land dispossession, including from the District 6 Museum.
